How to do it

  1. 1Check the library calendar for scheduled reading or story time events.
  2. 2If no formal program exists, select a quiet area in the children's section.
  3. 3Encourage the child to choose books slightly below their reading level to practice fluency, or slightly above to challenge vocabulary.
  4. 4Practice reading aloud with expression, focusing on character voices and pace.
  5. 5Return the books and check out new titles.

What they're practising

  • Literacy Skills Enhancement
  • Vocabulary Expansion
  • Empathy (if reading to others)
  • Confidence in Reading
