How to do it

  1. 1Sit facing the child in a distraction-free environment.
  2. 2Start with a very simple, slow rhythm (e.g., tap, tap, rest).
  3. 3Say 'Your turn!' and encourage the child to reproduce the rhythm exactly.
  4. 4Gradually increase the complexity and speed of the patterns as competence grows.
  5. 5Switch roles so the child leads and the parent repeats their pattern.
