How to do it

  1. 1Head to a local trail, creek, or area where loose stones are abundant.
  2. 2Give the child the 'mission' to collect 10 unique rocks.
  3. 3As rocks are collected, ask the child to describe them using specific adjectives (smooth, gritty, speckled, heavy, light).
  4. 4Back at home, clean the collection and arrange the rocks by category (e.g., largest to smallest, darkest to lightest).
