Read to a Dog: Freya the Springer Spaniel

Ages5–18

Children can practice reading aloud to a certified therapy dog in a supportive environment.

Trying out your new reading skills in front of other people can be intimidating! But dogs always listen and never judge, even when we make mistakes. Practice reading with a furry pal at the library every 1st Tuesday afternoon and improve your skills with the listening ear of a certified therapy dog from the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Feel free to bring a book from home, or browse the library shelves for books to read! Read with Freya the Springer Spaniel from 4 PM to 5 PM on the first Tuesday of the month!. All participants must register to reserve a time to take part. If you have not participated in our Read to a Dog program at the East Asheville Library, you will need to sign a one-time waiver for us to have on file. If you sign up a child under 8 years old, an adult must be in the room for the duration of their time slot. Register in person, call the library at 828-250-4738, or e-mail us at eastasheville.library@buncombenc.gov. Ages: Teen (ages 12-18), Family (children of all ages), School Age - (grades K-5), Tween (ages 10-12). Hosted by East Asheville Library, Buncombe County Public Libraries.
