A Cherry Log Christmas Carol
An Appalachian-infused retelling of the classic holiday ghost story featuring live traditional music.
A Cherry Log Christmas Carol transplants Dickens’ classic tale into the Southern Appalachian mountains, drawing inspiration from regional folklore and the narrative legacy of storytelling theologian Rev. Dr. Fred Craddock. Rooted in the traditions of Western North Carolina and North Georgia, this Appalachian-infused reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic ghost story is uniquely suited to SART’s mission and audience. This uniquely entertaining production will feature Clark Taylor (recently seen at SART as director of last season’s Singing Mary), portraying all the familiar characters—from Old Scrooge and Marley’s Ghost to the residents of Cherry Log, Georgia. An added bonus: This production is underscored by a live ensemble of traditional Appalachian musicians playing fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, and auto-harp. Audiences will enjoy traditional regional carols, hymns, and folk tunes such as “Christmas Time’s A Comin'” , “In the Bleak Midwinter”, and “Long Time Traveler.” You will not want to miss this holiday entertainment treat! Offered for only one weekend in Owen Theatre. Saturday & Sunday Performances December 12 – 2:00 & 5:00 PM December 13 – 2:00 PM TICKETS ON SALE NOW !
