A Morning of Stories & Art
A morning event featuring live readings and illustrations by local authors and artists for children.
On a Saturday morning, the courtyard at Hyde Park’s beloved third space First Light Books is a delightful place to be. Making it that much more delightful will be three local authors and illustrators collaborating with Texas Book Festival’s KUT for Kids series, bringing live readings and illustrations for youngsters to enjoy. Tejana artist Eliza Kinkz illustrated Pura Belpré Illustration Honor winner Papá's Magical Water-Jug Clock by Jesús Trejo and made her author-illustrator debut with last year’s Mistaco: A Tale of Tragedy y Tortillas ; award-winning author-illustrator Don Tate has penned several critically acclaimed works and co-founded the Brown Bookshelf, which raises awareness of African American voices writing for young readers; and Anne Wynter has authored several outstanding books, including Nell Plants a Tree , which won the Ezra Jack Keats Award and the Golden Kite Award and was selected as the 2023 Texas Great Read. – Kat McNevins
