Onion Creek Orchard Halloween Remembrance Ceremony
A memorial ceremony for the Halloween floods followed by community activities at the new orchard.
Halloween 2013 changed the lower Onion Creek area in ways that none of us could have anticipated. The water came, and nothing was ever the same again for those if us effected by the Halloween Floods. Many who had considered staying and rebuilding changed their minds after the Halloween flood of 2015 (which was actually the day before Halloween.) Lives were lost, pets were lost, wildlife….the neighborhood was lost and Halloween hasn’t been the same since then, Onion Creek Park Neighborhoods Alliance has been working with the City of Austin to follow through with one of the hopes of those who used to be our neighbors. Our first step in achieving those dreams is to plan an orchard–to build something that is life sustaining that can stand as a living memorial for all that was lost during the Halloween Floods. We few who remain living in the area will never forget and we hope what we’re working towards honors all that was. Please join us! Join us in a Remembrance Ceremony of all that was lost during the Halloween Floods at 10 am. And then celebrate the kickoff of the Onion Creek Orchard with: Wildflower stomp Echoes of the Watershed nature walk Pecan hunt Lemonade stand Austin Fire & Police Department vehicles Community garden information & other useful information via our community partners Trick or Treating!!! Come join us and enjoy the beautiful land that remains where there was once a vibrant neighborhood!
