A creative after-school art program for children aged 10-12 focusing on various mediums and artistic skill development.
Ongoing, Wednesdays, 4:30pm – 6:00pm Ages 10-12 Register for a single class or save with a multi-class multipass! See “Memberships and Passes” for more info. Around age 10 or so, kids reach the stage in their creative development when realism is the gold standard, and even kids with the strongest support may decide that art isn’t their thing, simply because they don’t have the skills and knowledge to render more accurate imagery. Our after-school program for 10-12 year-olds focuses on creative projects and learning that will help them embrace the creative journey, rather than run from it. Our experienced and professional art educators will facilitate customized projects in various mediums each week, with a focus on abstract/non-representational artists, as well as gaining more advanced skills. Students are encouraged to attend weekly, however, students are welcome to attend occasionally, as they are able. Mediums/skills may include any of the following on any given day: drawing, acrylic painting, watercolor painting, collage, mosaics, pottery (in our Cat Clay studio), fiber arts, oil pastels, printmaking, cyanotypes, sculpture, mixed-media, etc. For most class days, your child will leave with a project. However, some days we will focus more on experiential art and learning about art in ways that will not produce a final artwork. Some projects may also be group projects that the students will work on as a team. Everyday will be something new! Students should be dropped off and picked up within 15 minutes of class start and end. Items to bring each day: – Layered clothing (suitable for paint and similar messy materials) – Spill-proof water bottle – Non-messy snack, if needed Scholarships for our after-school program (and other classes) may be available for those who otherwise would not be able to participate.
