Learn to mend and customize your clothing using sewing machines and creative techniques in this hands-on workshop.

Don’t throw it away, rework it. Join the African American Cultural Center at the D.H. Hill Jr. Library Makerspace for a hands-on dive into sustainable fashion and do-it-yourself creation. Whether you want to learn the basics of how to use a sewing machine, mend your favorite damaged thrifted piece or embroider custom patches to personalize your jacket or tote, this lab is for you. We’ll cover essential mending techniques and show you how to extend the life of your wardrobe through conscious creation. Sewing experience is not necessary to participate. We'll provide all machines and materials needed for the session. Bring a piece of clothing you’d like to mend or customize or use the practice fabric provided If you have questions about the session, contact Andaiye Qaasim, assistant director of the African American Cultural Center, at aaqaasim@ncsu.edu.
