NC State LIVE Well-Being Concerts With Nnenna and Pierce Freelon
A musical performance by Nnenna and Pierce Freelon held within the Grounded art exhibition.
NC State LIVE and the Gregg Museum of Art & Design have partnered to present Well-Being Concerts, featuring a family with rich connections to the university and the museum. The late architect Phil Freelon, an NC State College of Design alumnus, led the team that designed the Gregg’s new home, which opened in 2017. Phil Freelon's widow and son, Nnenna and Pierce Freelon, are a Grammy-nominated mother-son musical duo known for their collaborative children’s album, AnceStars. Nnenna Freelon is an acclaimed composer, podcaster, author and advocate for arts education. In addition to his music career, Pierce Freelon is a picture book author, podcaster and ice cream maker. The duo will perform at the Gregg inside the gallery featuring the exhibition Grounded by artist-in-residence Maya Freelon, Phil and Nnenna Freelon’s daughter. Shaped by Maya Freelon’s personal and collective memory, ancestry and humanity, Grounded transforms the Gregg into a retrospective on well-being, connection and discovery. This concert was created in partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. Carnegie Hall’s Well-Being Concerts combine world-class musical performances with elements of self-care and mindfulness, animated by evidence that music helps people heal and thrive. Note: Tickets for NC State's Well-Being Concerts will go on sale on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. online and 1 p.m. in the box office at Thompson Hall.
