A unique all-female and non-binary production of the classic musical about American independence.

Southern Wake Players is pleased to present an all-female and non-binary production of 1776. Why this cast? Because we believe that women and non-binary individuals have the right to fill any role, be it on-stage or in positions of political leadership. Our production reframes this moment of history by linking marginalized genders to the legacy of American idealism while challenging the audience to reconsider who had a voice in 1776. Synopsis: It’s the summer of 1776, and the nation is ready to declare independence… if only our founding fathers can agree to do it! The musical follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the Second Continental Congress to vote for independence from Great Britain. Music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards Book by Peter Stone Directed and choreographed by Nancy Rich Music/Vocal Direction by Craig Johnson Assistant Director: Tina Best Early Stage Manager: Rod Rich
