Biomimicry: Nature as a Mentor
A guided nature walk exploring how local plants and animals inspire human design.
Learn about biomimicry at Swift Creek Bluffs! Biomimicry (from the Greek bios , meaning life, and mimesis , meaning to imitate) is the practice of looking at how plants, animals, and ecosystems solve problems and then copying those designs to solve human challenges. It’s not about using nature as a resource (like cutting down trees for wood); it’s about learning from nature as a mentor . Join Hike Leader, Leigh Aultman, for a morning of Biological Storytelling. We will walk the short creek loop trail with up to six stops where stories will be shared about local organisms' biological adaptations and how those adaptations and innovations can inform human designs. This is a free event, but preregistration is required. Due to the size of the parking lot, we will keep the hiking group small and ask that you register by vehicle rather than individual. Feel free to bring guests but please carpool to ensure we have enough space in the parking lot.
